I have never downloaded any adobe software for my macbook pro, yet i got an “adobe flash player install manager” out of nowhere and it says “update adobe flash player at the top”. Could this be a virus or a trojan?

Don’t install it!
The Adobe flash player popup you got sounds a lot like the Mac Flashback Trojan horse that Intego discovered in 2011. http://blog.intego.com/intego-security-m…
Do you know the URL at which you got the Flash pop up? If so, I suggest sending it to sample@virusbarrier.com and also double check that your computer is not infected with anything.
If you’re infected, the malicious code is installed in a file at ~/Library/Preferences/Preferences.dylib
So if you have this file on your computer, then your Apple Mac or other data on your computer is definitely at risk. If you are infected or unsure, you might try installing VirusBarrier X6 and run the malware scan. http://www.intego.com/virusbarrier/
Also keep the anti-spyware and firewall protection turned on to block any connection to remote servers if you accidentally installed the Trojan horse.
Good luck! Hope this helps..
