I personally recommend Microsoft Security Essentials.
Others would recommend AVG or Avast probably but I like MSE the most. Its lightweight, its interface isn’t all in your face like Avast is and it does a good job of catching stuff.

You have two choices in great free AV. Avast, and Avira. I would install one for a month, then the other, and see which you like better. You can’t go wrong with either. I use Avast free, better interface, has a boot time scan, and does not have ads to buy the full version. You can get them here:http://www.avast.com/en-us/indexhttp://www.avira.com/en/avira-free-antiv…
AVG has a free version. Microsoft makes a free antivirus program too. Both seem decent for being free. If you want something that is actually good you will have to spend some money.
