Shall I Move To Newcastle? / Housing Prices Quiery?

By AntiVirus Posted in: RISING

I live south in the UK, near London, and i need to buy my own place.
Obviously house prices are stupid around London for a first time buyer, I heard on the radio and I know that house prices in Newcastle are less than half what they are in London, so the thought crossed my mind is, if i got a job of a similar wage in Newcastle, should I move there?! Points of view welcome, it was just a general question.
Also I wanted to ask, for anyone who knows about property, with the UK being in a double dip recession at the moment, obviously housing prices have dropped in allot of areas in the UK, including the north, my question is, do you think that once the UK comes out that house prices in Newcastle or surrounding areas in the north will rise, maybe dramatically, therefor giving me more money on my investment??
Any thought please share.

  1. Geordie Says

I was born and bred in Newcastle (hence Geordie!). My family are still up there and though I have lived in London for over 20 years I am up there a lot. I know about the house prices through family and friends of course and am in a position to compare as I’m down South. If you get a salary same or similar then it’s a no brainer. Property is cheaper. As anywhere;there are areas that are cheaper (Heaton and Benton 2 examples) and areas more upmarket (Jesmond). Newcastle is a thriving city.
Millions has been invested in quayside development (lots of fab waterside flats).
You must know about city nightlife in Newcastle? It rocks! People are sooooooooo friendly. If I didn’t have commitments in London at the moment I’d move back tom morrow! Will be up there for Xmas – can’t wait.On the issue of investment return I am no expert but if I had spare cash (who does these days!?) I’d buy up there no question. If you have any specific questions I’d be happy to help.
