Reliable, Free Anti-virus Programs?

By AntiVirus Posted in: AVG Anti-Virus

I’m looking for the best and most reliable computer security program that’s also available for download free somewhere.
I’ve been using AVG Security the past 6 months since Norton subscription ran out but the scans hardly worked, the firewall had zero filter and blocked nearly everything, and the constant reminders that I could upgrade were annoying so I uninstalled it all and I’m now looking for another program

Microsoft Security Essentials- made by and for microsoft- and its free, and if you look around you may find Malware Bytes free

  2. Bill M. Says

Here’s an excellent combo that’s free and a whole lot better than Norton and AVG:
    Microsoft Security Essentials http://www.microsoft.com/security_essent…
    Comodo Firewall http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-secu…
    Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware http://www.malwarebytes.org/
Just disable the AV feature of Comodo that comes with the suite and do manual scans with MBAM as only the pro version of MBAM does real-time scanning and blocking.

comodo free antivirus is the best because it updates every hour automatically. this gives fastest protection against threats that suddenly emerge. Avast, Avira, AVG, have only 1 update a day. You’d have to wait 23 hours or so, if a threat suddenly comes out for the signatures to be loaded.
The comodo security suite is best. it has the strongest firewall and an antivirus that updates every hour.

Malwarebytes rocks! just remember to update the definition file
As afr as full time scanner, AVG free or AVG standard is all you need, but do not run the optimized scan or whatever that thing as at first install, it will thrash your hard drive.
Security essentials is garbage, as an IT professional we use the corporate version FOREFRONT which uses the SAME virus definitions. Take my word for it. I am the virus specialist at work, and i would NEVER us it for many reasons, not to mention its easy for virus to disable it, i have seen it happen. You have more chances of getting virus with MSE than with AVG. We put AVG on a few problematic machines, and those machines have NEVER been on my radar since then.
    But see for yourself

I agree that Microsoft Security Essentials is the best free antivirus software. As for the firewalls and security suites that have been mentioned, don’t bother. Just make sure that windows firewall is on and you are all set.

Trend Micro antivirus is good. It has both antivirus as well as anti-spyware features in it.

Avast is a good anti virus software to use and it is free with free downloads and updates. Never had a problem with it.

    Avira Antivirus Personal
Dont install Comodo Firewall. I call malware on it because it’s near impossible to get rid off
