Pc Hard Drive Failing When Resuming From Standby?

Whenever I put my computer in standby, the next time i boot it up i either get clicking noises from my computer (which i presume is a problem with the hard drive), a blank monitor, or a frozen computer. I then have to hold down the power button until the computer shuts off and reboot. I recently removed a couple of trojans in my computer and have done numerous computer scans with ZoneAlarm. Could the trojans have damaged my computer and what else could be causing these problems? Any help would be appreciated because my computer takes forever to boot up.
