My laptop is an HP with an i3 processor, 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive. It is under a year old, and in fact this is the 3rd HP I have had in the past year as they keep on just going wrong, don’t ask me why I keep on getting them. I am running 64bit Windows 7 home premium.
My laptop was working perfectly but had to do an update, so I left it on to do its 9 updates whilst I went to sleep, anyway the next morning I go to turn it on, and I log into my user and the screen stays black for about 10+ minutes before my desktop actually appears, however my cursor is visible the whole time. Whenever I try to open something, even clicking the start button the computer freezes. I am able to access the menu after about 10 minutes of waiting, and then as soon as I type something in it freezes again. This is the same for opening programmes, files, browsers, you name it. Sometimes I cannot do anything and an ‘end process’ message appears in a small box. If I click this all the icons (which sometimes take ages to load the actual display icon) disappear off my desktop along with the start bar, then a minute later they re-appear as if I have logged off and on again.
I have kasperky pure anti-virus on my Laptop and it says I have 3 virus’ and 5 trojans! However I cannot click disinfect, I can only click on quarantine and I am not sure what this does. It also has a number of suspicious activities, perhaps spyware or malware. I am not entirely sure.
The evening before all this happened I installed Microsoft office 2007 from a genuine Microsoft disc with a product key.
I do use torrents every now and then, however I don’t download much, and I don’t play games on my laptop. I use it for the internet and work.
It took me an hour to finally open up my anti-virus without it freezing and crashing, and its really pissing me off. What could it be? Is it the software? the virus’? Is it best to reset the laptop back to the factory setting which I don’t mind doing? Should I get a new laptop? Please help. Thank you very much in advance!!

This might be for different reasons. Your laptop properties are excellent.
Virus/Trojans will make your laptop slow, so don’t download or even visit crap sites.
Another reason might be overload of processes, if you have too many software installed on your computer and all of these start running when you start the laptop, it doesn’t cope with all the work.
What I suggest you do is either install the windows again, which will make your laptop like brand new (in this case all the files and software will be deleted from your pc) or you could in theory sort out the viruses and the too many software running on your laptop, but you would need a bit advanced knowledge of computers – you need to go to safe mode, and then clean everything manually.
If you don’t have important files on your pc, I advise you to installthe windows again and follow my advices in the first two paragraphs to avoid having the 4th HP
>> Scan your computer with an antivirus
>> Apply De-fragmentation on your system
>> Delete all temporary files
>> Run disc clean up
>> Run Reginout scan.
suggest you that You need 15% or more free HDD space to defragment effectively.
do a system restore on the date that was working fine.
The computer doesn’t have enough resources to conduct all of the tasks you have requested, or has bad instructions that don’t allow it to complete a task. Problems that arise from bad instructions or operations are usually related to the Windows Registry. The windows operating systems use a hierarchical structure that is similar to how your files are arranged within folders. The data that is stored in the registry tells the computer where hardware is installed, how to interface with programs and components, user preferences, and a multitude of other information. If at any point some of the values in the registry get confused, your computer may freeze up.it is recommended that you use registry repair software. http://bestcleanerrewiews.com The software will first backup your registry to prevent a major system failure. Then the software will go through each layer of the registry and review and correct registry values that may be corrupted.
For most of the time, when this happens, the only alternative is to press Ctrl – Alt – Del all at the same time. You will see a box pop up and you will see a list of programs that are currently running on your machine.
You’ll see a ststus column next to each application. Highlight each program individually and click “End Task”. This will close certain programs that are “not responding”. Worst of all, you might also risk the chance of losing all of your unsaved documents.
That is the ultimate price you pay when a program keeps freezing up. I’ve been there, and it isn’t fun.
Thankfully, there are some magical ways that you can adopt to have a smoother processing PC. Some of the techniques will include minimizing the number of programs running at one go, a scheduled maintenance, and also, regular scans for viruses and spywares. Let’s talk about these a bit more.
