In my computer programing class the instructor told us that it rarely gets a virus. Who has Linex and is willing to share some infomation about it?
Thanks in advance.

Ubuntu is one of the more popular distributions of linux.
Download it from their site: http://www.ubuntu.com/download
Follow the simple instructions (with pictures!)
I have used windows, mac, and most recently windows.
1. If you’re windows/mac is filled with viruses and malaware, sometimes it is easier to just wipe the thing by installing ubuntu.
2. The ubuntu interface (newest) is very similar to an OSX interface.
3. File directory hierarchies are the same as in OSX.
4. There are a lot of software available for ubuntu, and it is all free because it is open sourced.
5. Because ubuntu is made and distributed for free, it receives constant updates. Don’t be afraid of these updates. Always click update.
6. The transition from windows to ubuntu will be difficult because the graphical user interface is so different. But the transition from mac to ubuntu is simple, they are very similar.
7. The reason there is little/no virus for ubuntu/linux, is because people don’t bother making it. Also both linux and mac OS are based on Unix, which is a little more secure, and a lot less popular a target by virus makers.
Download the ubuntu OS onto a cd (like the instructions say) There will be an option where you can demo the operating system. This way you can experiment and see if you like it, before making the switch.
i use linux on my laptop almost everyday. have no complaints with it.
it runs like butter and my hardware isnt even the top of the range either.
advantages would be virus free, open to develop for, a mass library of free applications.
disadvantages, sucks to play games, has a slight learning curve when it comes to the command prompt instructions.
but all in all, you can run linux off a live cd which wont interfere with your windows installation if you wanna try it out but dont want it permanently.
