Hello there, I recently uninstalled AVG free because it was taking up too much RAM. But I’m stuck on choosing a free, effective, and fast anti-virus scanner. My computer is pretty laggy (takes forever to boot up, and other problems) and has up to 512 RAM, so I would appreciate some help!
What I have in mind is Avira and Avast. And I possibly need a new firewall, since ZoneAlarm seems “meh”.

So far everything everyone has posted saying you can download is to heavy for 512 mg of RAM. Avast, AVG, Avira, Are all to heavy. You need something light. I usually do not advise free. Because they all suck. But in your situation this is what i would advise. Panda, It’s a small download and very light on ram. As far as fire wall goes you can’t scrimp their. You need a good one. Go with comodo. It’s a good firewall. To help keep you from getting infected get Sandboxy. It’s like a virtual machine. As long as you are browsing in the sand box you cannot get infected. Also, It runs light. Never run a free AV without a sand box program. It will pull your fat out of the fire when your free AV lets you down.

Comodo stand alone firewall. When you start the download you will be asked what you want.http://personalfirewall.comodo.com/free-…
Sandboxy This is free. But after 30 days you will start getting a pop up asking you to upgrade. It will also after 30 days tell you to give it so many seconds to load. This is the only draw back to it. I used it free for 2 years and never had a problem.http://www.sandboxie.com/
